Private label is not simply the addition of a buyer’s logo. It is a controlled commercial programme covering product identity, specifications, artwork, packaging, traceability, complaints and responsibilities in the destination market.
Fix the product and responsible parties
Identify the legal manufacturer, production site, private-label owner, importer or distributor and the party responsible for market-specific review. The commercial agreement should match the names and roles used on approved labelling.
Create an artwork-control process
- Approved source files and revision number
- Product name, model, size and pack quantity
- Manufacturer and responsible-party information
- Lot, date, origin and traceability fields
- Language, symbols, barcodes and instructions
- Written approval of print proofs before production
Define quality and release records
Connect each order to the approved specification, sample, packaging version and inspection or release records, so complaints stay traceable to the affected product and batch.
Control changes and discontinuation
Material, design, process, site, subcontractor, label or packaging changes should trigger review. The agreement should also address remaining packaging stock, obsolete artwork and product discontinuation.
This guide provides general commercial education. Product-specific technical, legal and regulatory requirements should be confirmed for the selected product and destination market.
